La Maison Lautrec is situated on a quiet lane in the heart of the lovely medieval village of Azille. A spacious, light-filled house that’s steeped in history, La Maison has been renovated sympathetically to retain all its character and charm. While parts of the house date back 500 years, it has all the modern comforts you would expect as well as a private courtyard garden that’s just perfect for dining en plain air or simply relaxing with a glass of one of our excellent local wines.

The tranquil Canal du Midi, historic Cathar Country and a choice of fabulous beaches are all close at hand. Nestled amongst vineyards and perfectly placed between mountains and sea, historic Azille is the ideal location from which to explore all the Languedoc has to offer.

La Maison

3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms; La Maison sleeps 6-8
La Maison Lautrec takes its name from Adele-Zoe Toulouse-Lautrec, mother of the famous artist, who owned the property in the 19th century. A spacious open-plan kitchen/dining room leads on to a charming salon, which in turn opens on to a pretty courtyard garden. The whole top floor is devoted to the large master suite, with its own sitting room and shower room. La Maison has two further bedrooms, luxury bathroom with roll-top bath, and an additional sitting/games area. The house provides all modern comforts while retaining many historic features.

Just across the courtyard is the Remise, a medieval barn, with a characterful one-bedroom apartment on the first floor. The Remise Apartment may be booked in conjunction with La Maison to accommodate larger groups.

Le Village

Azille is a very friendly village with everything you need. Just a couple of minutes’ walk from the house there is a boulangerie, an épicerie, two bars and an art gallery, plus a weekly market, several caves and all key services including a tourist office and post office.

Village life centres on the leafy Promenade, lined with historic buildings. In medieval times Azille was a wealthy and important place – wander the atmospheric streets to absorb its history and climb the tower of the impressive Romanesque church to enjoy views over the surrounding countryside.

Attractions

La Maison Lautrec lies in the heart of the Minervois wine region. The village is just five minutes from the lovely Canal du Midi and the Lac du Jouarres with its pebble beach, watersports and restaurant. It’s easy to explore the stunning scenery and historic castles of the Pays Cathare – Carcassonne with its fabulous medieval Cité is just at hand.

The amazing Languedoc beaches are within easy reach, as is the glorious countryside of the Black Mountain and Haut Languedoc Regional Natural Park. There are many excellent wineries, good walking and cycle routes, and plenty to keep children happy too.
